KILIMANJARO CLIMB LEMOSHO ROUTE 9 DAYS ITINERARY.

http://avocetsafaris.com/kilimanjaro-climb-lemosho-route-7-days-itinerary/

DAY 1: Arrive in Tanzania we stay at Moivaro lodge, which is a beautiful lodge located on the lower slopes of Mount Meru and is a perfect place to prepare you for adventure.

DAY 2: After completing the neccessary registration formalities at Londorossi National Park gate, we drive through varied farmland with open views over the plains to reach the Lemosho roadhead. The last section of the road is of poor quality and difficult to drive after rain, sometimes we start walking a kilometre or two below the roadhead. We often have our lunch at the roadhead before starting to walk. It is an easy day of walking up a small path through beautiful and lush forest. We camp at Lemosho Big Tree Camp (2,650 m); [2-3 hours walking].

DAY 3: We soon leave the forest behind and enter the moorland zone of giant heather. The trail climbs steadily with wide views to reach the rim of the Shira Plateau. There is a tangible sense of wilderness, especially if afternoon mists come in! We walk part way across the plateau to Shira One Camp (3,550 m) [6-8 hours walking].

DAY 4: A morning of sustained ascent and panoramic views brings us to lunch near the Lava Tower junction (4,550 m.). The trail then descends to the bottom of the Great Barranco valley (3,900 m); another spectacular campsite sheltered by towering cliffs and with extensive views of the plains far below. [7-9 hours walking].

DAY 5: A steep climb up the Barranco Wall leads us to an undulating trail on the south-eastern flank of Kibo, with superb vistas of the Southern Icefields. The terrain changes to scree, with pockets of lush vegetation in sheltered hollows, and there is only a short distance to our camp at Karanga (4,000 m), the last water point on the way to the summit. [4-5 hours walking].

DAY 6: We follow an easy path on compacted scree with wide views that gains altitude unrelentingly to reach the Barafu campsite (4,600 m) for lunch. There is a short acclimatisation walk to the plateau at the bottom of the South-East valley (4,800 m). The remainder of the day is spent resting in preparation for the final ascent before a very early night. [3-5 hours walking].

DAY 7: We will start our ascent by torchlight at about 1 a.m. so that we can be up on the Crater rim by sunrise. The steep climb over loose volcanic scree has some well-graded zig-zags and a slow but steady pace will take us to Stella Point (5,735 m), in about five or six hours. We will rest there for a short time to enjoy the sunrise over Mawenzi. Those who are still feeling strong can make the two hour round trip from here along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak (5,896 m), passing close to the spectacular glaciers and ice cliffs that still occupy most of the summit area. The descent to Barafu is surprisingly fast, and after some refreshment, we continue to descend to reach Millenium Camp (3,800 m). [10-15 hours walking].

DAY 8: A sustained descent through lovely forest with lush undergrowth takes us to the National Park gate at Mweka (1,650 m); and on through coffee and banana farms to Mweka village. [4-6 hours walking].

DAY 9: After saying bye to our then you need a private departure transfer which is included from the hotel to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for your flight, unless you have an option to do a short safari or any other option we will discuss.

2 DAYS 1 NIGHT NORTHERN CIRCUIT

 http://avocetsafaris.com/2-days-1-night-northern-circuit/

2days/1night Safari – Lake Manyara National Park/Ngorongoro Crater
Day 1 : 0830hrs drive from Arusha to Lake Manyara park http://www.tanzaniaparks.com/manyara.html  game drives with picnic lunch boxes, dinner and overnight at Twiga Camp Site/Ngorongoro Wildlife Lodge http://www.hotelsandlodges-tanzania.com/properties/en/ngorongoro_index.php  / Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge. http://www.sopalodges.com/ngorongoro-sopa-lodge/overview
Day 2:After breakfast decent into the Ngorongoro Crater for game drives with picnic lunch boxes, later afternoon 1500hrs drive back to Arusha town.
Ngorongoro is a fascinating and unusual Conservation Area which includes the Ngorongoro Crater at its centre, and then extends through the Crater.

Highlands, in which local tribes are permitted to maintain their traditional  lifestyles in as natural environment as possible.
This extraordinary volcanic landscape is rich and fertile, with stunning craters and lakes, and the high altitude creates a malaria-free micro climate.
The crater is said to have the most dense concentration of wildlife in Africa. As such, Ngorongoro Crater has achieved world renown, and attracts
a growing number of visitors each year. Even if time is limited this natural but accessibly small caldera ensures a rewarding safari.
-The Ngorongoro Crater is the world’s largest intact caldera in an exceptional geographical position, forming a spectacular bowl of about 265
sq km with sides up to 600m deep. It is the stalking ground of 20 – 30,000 wild animals at any one time.
The crater floor consists of a number of ecological environments that include grassland, swamps, forests and Lake Makat, a central soda lake
filled by the Munge river. All these various habitats attract various wildlife to drink, wallow, graze, hide or climb.
-Although animals are free to move in and out of this contained environment, the rich volcanic soil, lush forests and spring source lakes on the crater
floor tend to incline both grazers and predators to remain throughout the year.
-Ngorongoro Crater is also presently one of the most likely areas in Tanzania to see the endangered Black Rhino, as a small population are
thriving in this idyllic and protected environment one of the only areas  where they continue to breed in the wild.
-The Crater rim, over 2,200 metres high, touches swathes of clouds for most days of the year, with cool high altitude vapours that seem to bring a clean
lightness to the air, and also a chill. These highlands wake up to a misty  fog in most months.

MIGRATION SAFARI

THE GREAT MIGRATION

 http://avocetsafaris.com/migration-safari/

Each year around the same time, the circular great wildebeest migration begins in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area of the southern Serengeti in Tanzania. This migration is a natural phenomenon determined by the availability of grazing. This phase lasts from approximately January to March, when the calving season begins – a time when there is plenty of rain-ripened grass available for the 260,000 zebra that precede 1.7 million wildebeest and the following hundreds of thousands of other plains game, including around 470,000 gazelles.

During February, the wildebeest spend their time on the short grass plains of the southeastern part of the ecosystem, grazing and giving birth to approximately 500,000 calves within a 2 to 3-week period. Few calves are born ahead of time and of these, hardly any survive. The main reason is that very young calves are more noticeable to predators when mixed with older calves from the previous year. As the rains end in May, the animals start moving northwest into the areas around the Grumeti River, where they typically remain until late June. The crossings of the Grumeti and Mara rivers beginning in July are a popular safari attraction because crocodiles are lying in wait. The herds arrive in Kenya in late July / August, where they stay for the remainder of the dry season, except that the Thomson’s and Grant’s Gazelles move only east/west. In early November, with the start of the short rains the migration starts moving south again, to the short grass plains of the southeast, usually arriving in December in plenty of time for calving in February.
About 250,000 wildebeest die during the journey from Tanzania to the Maasai Mara National Reserve in southwestern Kenya, a total of 800 kilometres (500 mi). Death is usually from thirst, hunger, exhaustion, or predation.
